Note-taking apps have tended to concentrate on one or two of the features that users demand, but OmniOutliner implements all the ingredients into one app. Although it is a bit on the pricey side, those who are using the iPad for detailed note taking will be willing to shell out the extra money for such an in depth app.
Admittedly, the customization tools do take a bit of getting used to, but once you’ve paid your dues, the app turns into a truly powerful tool. Included are expected features, such as highlighting and indenting, but it also includes tools that others fail to consider.
Options for customization and organization of your notes are much less limited than in other note apps. Highlighting is of course included, with three colors to choose from: pink, yellow and green. Also included is the ability to automatically emphasize words rather than having to bold and italicize them in different places.
One of the most interesting customization options is the column function. Users can create different columns for different types of documents, such as a to-do list with a “check box” column to actually check things off as you go. Columns can also be given titles and assigned a type for whatever you plan on putting into them, be it dollars, date, or duration.
